French Onion Chicken Orzo Casserole

A delicious and hearty casserole combining French onion flavors with chicken and orzo, enhanced with the crispiness of turkey bacon.

  • 1 pound orzo pasta
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded
  • 1 cup turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or Gruyere recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, combine cooked orzo, shredded chicken, crumbled turkey bacon, sautéed onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish. Pour beef broth evenly over the top.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top of the casserole.
  6. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Notes

  • For a creamy version, add 1 cup of cream cheese when mixing ingredients.
  • Feel free to add vegetables like spinach or bell peppers.
