Classic Snickerdoodles

Classic Snickerdoodles are the perfect combination of soft, chewy, and crisp with a delightful cinnamon sugar coating.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. Combine the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl; gradually add to the creamed mixture.
  5. Roll the dough into balls and then roll in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Place the cookies on ungreased baking sheets.
  7. Bake for about 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are set.
  8. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.

Notes

  • For a chewier cookie, slightly underbake.
  • Store at room temperature for up to a week in an airtight container.
